Evan's Story

Evan Settle, is the owner of Sweat LLC, a high-end private personal training studio located on West Main Street in a storefront built in 1880.

Evan earned his Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science from Virginia Commonwealth University with an emphasis in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitative Therapy.

Evan graduated on Academic Scholarship with a 3.75 G.P.A. Now that Evan is back within walking distance of the VCU campus - his roots in the Richmond area and Fan District are established.

During Evan’s ten years of experience, he has worked as a Registered Rehabilitative Therapist, Personal Trainer, Assistant Fitness Director, Fitness Director, and now the owner of this physical fitness studio.

Evan has worked with clients of all ages and skill levels. Along with the specialized knowledge, Evan has gained from school; he also draws on a deep passion and belief he has for the benefits of Physical Fitness.

This passion and belief in the benefits of exercise stem from Evan’s own past experiences.

In March 1981, he sustained a third-degree head injury as a passenger in a car hit head-on by another vehicle. The accident left him in a coma for 11 days. When he awoke, he had hemiparesis, a condition that paralyzes one entire side of the body.

The affected side depends on which part of the brain was injured and the severity of the trauma. He also developed speech apraxia, losing the ability to speak.

Though he could hear, understand, and form responses, he couldn’t speak or make a sound. Trapped in his own body, he could want to yell at the top of his lungs, but no one would hear. His rehabilitation shaped every belief and perspective he holds.

After the accident, Evan couldn’t walk, talk, move his right side, or support his own weight. Having lived through both struggle and recovery, he now uses his knowledge and experience to help others achieve their goals.

Evan believes there is no reason not to exercise or be active every day. The benefits are endless as well as the pitfalls of not doing it. The excuse of "I don’t have time" isn’t valid, the truth is, you don’t have time not to.

Everyone around you will benefit, and it will improve everything you do.
